Thank you! and we're off!

A big thank you to everyone who helped out with our fundraising in so many ways. We will keep this blog as up to date as possible during the trip and will post updates when we return. 6,000 dollars will go a long way on this project, and rest assured that we will make every dollar count. THANKS!

Starting in 2008 in Partnership with World Leadership School, Lake Forest Academy students work with women and girls of the Awamaki weaving cooperative in Peru on creating a stable and sustainable source of income for families in rural Patacancha. Through working with the weavers and the community, LFA students get a chance to problem solve and learn from a culture rich in tradition.

This year (2010), a group of 14 students will be traveling to Patacancha to continue the construction of the community weaving center begun in 2009 by LFA students and others. They have a goal of raising 4,000 dollars to finish all of the structures seen in the drawing. It will be hard physical work, especially at 14,000 feet, but the students are excited for the challenge. To help students reach their goal, click the donate button below. Any amount helps, and 100% of the money goes to the building project.

	The mission of the World Leadership School is to unite young people around the world’s most pressing problems and empower them to become leaders. We use volunteering as a platform for teaching global issues and leadership. World Leadership School partners with schools to offer 1-4 week service learning trips to Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Belize, Peru and the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. Each program is custom-fit to the needs of each school but includes the following key elements: On a World Leadership School trip, students focus on a single global issue like climate change or poverty. Students advance from understanding to action by working alongside inspiring local leaders who are doing something about these problems. Along the way, students will look inside themselves and begin a personal leadership journey.
